Mark de Saram
Mark de Saram has been working in the Reinsurance industry for over 30 years, the last 28 of those having been spent on the Underwriting side of the business. He worked with Victory Ins Company (later NRG Victory Reinsurance) in the London Market from 1980 till 1991 underwriting various classes of Non Marine business, for which Victory were a lead market. He finished his period with NRG Victory with a year as President of NRG Victory’s Canadian Branch.
In 1993 he joined Transatlantic Re and became General Manager of the London Branch, which wrote all lines of Non life for business primarily emanating from the London Market and Europe.
At the end of 1995 he moved to Everest Re (formerly Pru Re), which had just concluded a successful IPO, to Head its European operations, comprised of its operating Subsidiaries in London and Brussels. As the company grew and matured in its newl y “Public” form managing these operations involved some re-underwriting of the book of business and some redefining its profile in various markets. This against the backdrop of the challenging soft market environment of the late 90’s. Since 1995 the London and European book has grown from about $100M to $600M. In 2004 he moved to Bermuda to become CEO of Everest Re (Bermuda), Ltd. In that role he is responsible for the operation of a Worldwide book of business written from Bermuda as well as the European operations of the Group, written through its Branches in London and Brussels.
Mark has been a member of various London and Bermuda market committees, has spoken at various seminars and conferences on reinsurance related topics and has occasionally contributed articles for trade publications. |
